Kuala Lumpur, 17 September 2025 — Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, held a working breakfast meeting on Wednesday morning with Her Excellency Sounthone Xayachack, Vice-President of the National Assembly of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, in Malaysia, before the commencement of the 46th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) General Assembly.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the Comprehensive and Long-Lasting Strategic Partnership between Cambodia and Laos, emphasizing traditional friendship, close brotherhood, and good-neighborly relations. They highlighted their regular engagements at bilateral and multilateral forums, reflecting deep mutual trust and cooperation for the benefits of the two countries and peoples.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional developments. Cambodia briefed Laos on recent Cambodia–Thailand border tensions, stressing the importance of fully implementing the ceasefire agreement and deploying an ASEAN Observer Team to restore confidence and normalize bilateral relations.
They stressed that the issue is not about interference in the internal affairs of any ASEAN member state, but rather a reflection of the shared responsibility of ASEAN and AIPA members to foster peace, stability, development, and solidarity in the region. Cambodia reiterated its commitment to resolving disputes peacefully through diplomacy and in accordance with international law.
