Phnom Penh, 26 August 2026 — Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, on Wednesday received a courtesy call from Hon. Nguyen Thi Thanh, Vice-Chairwoman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, at the National Assembly Palace.
Samdech Khuon Sudary warmly welcomed Hon. Nguyen Thi Thanh and her delegation. She thanked the Vietnamese National Assembly for participating in and supporting the Second Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC-2).
Samdech also appreciated the warm hospitality extended during her official and friendship visit to Hanoi the previous month. She said the visit produced fruitful outcomes and strengthened bilateral and parliamentary relations.
She highly valued the traditional friendship between Cambodia and Viet Nam, guided by the principles of “good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term sustainability.”
Samdech recalled that Cambodia and Viet Nam had supported each other in their shared struggles for independence and peace. She stressed the need to preserve their special friendship and pass it on to future generations.
Amid increasingly complex regional and international circumstances, Samdech called on both countries to safeguard their hard-earned peace and protect their friendship from any attempt to undermine it.
She expressed confidence that, under the leadership of the Party, State, Government and National Assembly, Viet Nam would achieve its vision of becoming a developed, high-income country by 2045.
Hon. Nguyen Thi Thanh thanked Samdech Khuon Sudary for the warm welcome and hospitality. She also conveyed greetings from the senior leaders of Viet Nam.
She highly valued Cambodia’s growing role on the international stage, particularly its hosting of ISC-2. She also commended Cambodia’s rapid development and achievements.
The two leaders encouraged closer cooperation between their National Assemblies in legislation, representation and oversight. They agreed that parliamentary cooperation should produce practical benefits for both peoples.
They also called for more frequent exchanges among parliamentary leaders, commissions, friendship groups and officials. The two legislatures should continue supporting each other at regional and international parliamentary forums.
Both sides encouraged relevant institutions and businesses to expand cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, culture and education.
They also agreed to work towards increasing bilateral trade to US$20 billion in the near future. Economic cooperation, they said, should contribute to shared development and prosperity.
Cambodia and Viet Nam will celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027. The two sides will coordinate diplomatic, parliamentary, economic and people-to-people activities throughout the anniversary year.
The activities will help younger generations better understand the history and value of the longstanding relationship between the two countries.
The two leaders also discussed cooperation in combating online scams, cybercrime and other transnational crimes. They called for closer coordination and information-sharing among the relevant authorities.
Both leaders welcomed progress in land-border demarcation and committed to accelerating the remaining work to build a border of peace, friendship, cooperation, development and shared prosperity.
Samdech asked Hon. Nguyen Thi Thanh to convey her greetings and best wishes to H.E. To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam; Hon. Tran Thanh Man, President of the National Assembly of Viet Nam; and H.E. Le Minh Hung, Prime Minister of Viet Nam.
